Start “Smush”-ing Your Images

Being a web developer, I’ve always have problems with image sizes. Since I develope in a local environment most of the time before deployment. I have never have had to mess with image sizes. Most of the images load almost instantly for me. And once it’s over development phase, I just push the application and never bother with it again until I had to pull it up on my browser for some reasons and realize it takes three whole minutes to load all the images on one page, and then I panicked.

Like most developers, I’ve tried using the classic “Save for Web” function in Photoshop, but still, the compression rate to quality ratio is still not impressive enough.

Then, I found Smush.it. What it does is, it helps to reduce up to 70% of the filesize of images without compromising quality.

All you had to do is input the URL to the image files, and it will automatically “smush” the images and give it back to you in a compressed zip file.

So, if bandwidth is a very important aspect you need to consider when launching a web application, do give Smush.it it a try.
